The Moline fire marshal issued a temporary ban Wednesday on all residential and landscape burning in the city, effective immediately. The no-burn ban will be in effect until further notice and includes all trees, branches and leaves.

City officials said the ban is being enacted for the health and safety of the elderly, children and residents with acute and chronic respiratory conditions who are at risk from exposure to burning pollutants. Due to the power outage, those affected are unable to use air conditioners or other vital medical equipment and are forced to breathe polluted air.

The Moline Fire Department continues its efforts to help city crews clear streets and property of storm-damaged trees and debris. For more information, call the Moline Fire Department at (309) 797-0416.

A no-burn order also was issued earlier this week for all of Rock Island until further notice. No leaf burning or recreational burning is allowed in the city. For more information, call (309) 732-BURN.
