IOWA CITY — University of Iowa officials are confident the school’s largest dormitory will be ready for students in August — but there may be some inconveniences.

Mayflower Residential Hall houses about 1,000 students. Water from the Iowa River filled the dorm’s two lower-level parking garages and rose to about 2 feet on the ground floor during last month’s flooding.

University Housing Director Von Stange says while beds will be safe to sleep in, the convenience store, computer labs and 16 first-level apartments won’t be open. He also says telephones and hot water might not be working.

Stange and other officials toured the building on Wednesday. He says the plan is to be ready for students to move in on Aug. 18.
