All is well at Whitey's. The Quad-City ice cream manufacturer that had lost its power in this week's outage faced a great giveaway of ice cream if its power had not returned by Thursday afternoon.
“We were ready to give away 50,000 gallons of ice cream on Friday morning at our Moline factory, the Quad-Cities biggest ice cream social,” said Jon Tunberg, one of the owners. “But the power, very fortunately, returned at 4 a.m. Thursday when the temperature in our freezers was getting near zero. Normal cooling for ice cream in storage is 20 degrees below zero.”
“Our phones were ringing off the hook from people who were wanting to get in on the giveaway,” he said.
Power also is back in all other Quad-City Whitey stores, Tunberg said.
