The shelter at the Milan Community Center closed Friday, and the shelter at Sherrard Fire Station has been put on standby because it had no residents Friday.

The shelter can be reopened if needed over the weekend. The American Red Cross of the Quad-Cities Area urges anyone whose home is uninhabitable because of damage from the storm to contact the Red Cross at (309) 743-2166.

The Red Cross also reminds those without power to turn off or disconnect any appliance, equipment or electronics that were being used when the power went out. When the power comes back on, it may come back with momentary “surges” or “spikes” that can damage equipment such as computers and motors in appliances like the air conditioner, refrigerator, washer or furnace. Leave one light turned on so you’ll know when the power returns.
