River Bend Foodbank received more than 30,000 pounds of donated foods from Tyson Foods Inc. on Friday in conjunction with company sponsorship of the Register’s Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa, or RAGBRAI.

Tyson Foods donated 500 pounds per mile to food bank affiliates of American’s Second Harvest in Quad-Cities, Des Moines, Ottumwa and Waterloo this week.

“Demand is at an all-time high. Our distribution is limited only by the amount and quality of our donations,” said Tom Laughlin, River Bend executive director. “Protein base items are hard for us to obtain through our regular donations. This donation will fill a huge void for member agencies and the clients they serve.”
