A small pleasure boat exploded Saturday afternoon as it was pulling into the dock at Marquette Street landing in Davenport, injuring two people.

The injured boaters, whose names were not immediately released, were taken to Genesis Medical Center-East Rusholme Street, Davenport, said Davenport police Sgt. Mike Colclasure. All six people who were aboard the boat jumped overboard and began to swim to shore before other boaters rescued them.

Colclasure said the injured people, who were sitting in the back of the outboard watercraft when it burst into flames, suffered minor burns on their backs. Colclasure speculated there may have been a leak in the gas line.

Four fire engines, two ambulances and several police cars responded to the scene. Dozens of onlookers watched from the shore as the burning boat sent plumes of thick black smoke into the air before sinking.
