SHOW TO SEE: Psychedelic rockers Mondo Drag will perform Friday, Aug. 2, at RIBCO. The Quad-City band, whose name was inspired by a piece of bathroom wall art, previously was known as Holy Smokes. As Mondo Drag, the group has shortened its songs into easier-to-digest psychedelic folk, but the focus remains on instrumentation rather than vocals.

Mondo Drag will open for Radio Moscow, another psychedelic rock band from Ames, Iowa. The show also features 2 Girls and begins at 10 p.m. at RIBCO, 1815 2nd Ave., Rock Island. Cover is $5. For more information on the Web, visit ribco.com or myspace.com/holyrocks.

FOR THE FAMILY: There will be a guided bike tour of historic landmarks on Arsenal Island at 8 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 3. The tour will last two hours, and riders must bring identification and helmets. The bike tour is free, but reservations are required.

The tour will begin at the Mississippi River Visitor Center at Lock and Dam 15 on the west end of Arsenal Island.

To register or for more information, call (309) 794-5338.

FOR TEENS: The Quad-City Sports Center is hosting Camp Freeze for children 5-18 years old. The camp is open to all ability levels and will teach youngsters the fundamentals of skating for hockey, figure skating or just plain enjoyment.

Camp Freeze runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for five days beginning Monday, Aug. 4, and costs $150 per child. It will be held at the Quad-City Sports Center, 700 W. River Drive, Davenport.

For more information, call Carrie Bognar or Collin Shutt at (563) 322-5220.

HE SAID WHAT?:
Country singer Jason Aldean plays about 170 shows a year, but he makes sure he’s home with his wife and daughters, ages 5 and just younger than 1 year, for the holidays and birthdays. So when he found out last week that a show was booked on Halloween, he immediately called his booking agent and asked that it be rescheduled.

“I try to make it work out where I’m going to miss little things here and there, but if I can be home for bigger things, that’s what I try to do,” he said.
