Green Room presents Sondheim's 'Assassins'

If you don’t think the murders and attempted murders of U.S. presidents are fodder for musical theater, you haven’t heard of Stephen Sondheim’s “Assassins,” opening Aug. 1 at the Green Room Theatre in Rock Island.

“Part-vaudeville extravaganza, part-exposé and wholly electrifying, it reveals uneasy truths about the American Dream,” according to the Green Room publicity.

Ronald Reagan assassin Mark Hinkley and Gerald Ford assassin Squeaky Fromme (David Turley and Melissa Anderson Clark, pictured here) are among those featured, along with John Wilkes Booth, Lee Harvey Oswald and others whose infamy and notoriety may have been lost to the passage of time.
