“Craving for Culture,” the photos and prints by Steve Havener on display at the DeWitt (Iowa) Opera House, represent something new for the DeWitt native.
The photos include some from China, where he studied during 2000, as well as American Indian images.
“It’s a little different work for me,” he said. “I normally do ceramic pieces and do drawings and stuff onto my ceramic pieces. Most people that know my work know me as a ceramic artist, but this show kind of gave me an opportunity to get these pieces done that I wanted to get done for myself.”
Havener, who taught art at Clinton (Iowa) High School for 12 years, has been teaching at Center Point-Urbana High School since 2001, when his wife, Michelle, was transferred to Marion, Iowa, in her job as an insurance agent.
