Good morning, Quad-Cities. At 6:10 a.m., it’s 75 degrees under foggy skies with 91 percent humidity. Today we can expect a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4 p.m. with a high near 96 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. Tonight, there is a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could be severe with damaging winds. We can expect a low round 73 degrees.

The NWS also has issued a heat advisory for the Quad-City region. The advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. today. Temperatures in the middle and upper 90s are expected along and south of Interstate 80. The hot temperatures will combine with high humidity levels to create a heat index ranging from 100 to 108 degrees. The combination of high temperatures and high humidity can lead to possible heat illness. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room and stay out of the sun. And don’t forget to attend to your pets and check on the elderly.

Road work

Beginning today and continuing to the middle of September, Lincoln Road will be closed to through traffic from Kimberly Road west to the Davenport city limits (Middle Road). The pavement will be removed full-width at various locations with only gravel access roads to specific residential driveways. Check for other area road work/closings and closings across Iowa and Illinois before you head out this morning.
