Neil Bossola stopped short of calling the Quad-City Flames’ schedule for the coming season “perfect.”
But the team’s new CEO said the 2008-09 schedule, released by the American Hockey League on Thursday, will do just fine as the Calgary Flames’ Triple-A affiliate embarks on its second season.
“It’s pretty close,” Bossola said. “You’re always going to have your mix of days that aren’t exactly what you want, but for the most part we’re very happy with this.”
The Flames open the season Oct. 10 on the road at Rockford and will host the Ice Hogs the next night in their home opener at the i wireless Center.
Bossola said the Flames, like everyone else in the league, wanted as many Friday and Saturday dates as possible, and they came out well in that respect. Only a dozen of their 40 home games will not be played on one of those nights. They will have 15 home dates on Friday, 13 on Saturday, nine on Wednesday, two on Sunday and one on Tuesday. The number of Sunday dates is a major reduction from last season.
“The Tuesday is during the week between Christmas and New Year’s, which I think is good,” Bossola said. “And we’re home the Saturday after Christmas, which I also think is a good one.”
