Middle Road in Bettendorf is reduced to a single lane of traffic in each direction from Spruce Hills Drive to Woodfield Drive because of repair work. It is one of many roadwork projects in the Quad-City area. (John Schultz/QUAD-CITY TIMES) Buy this Photo

Good morning, Quad-Cities. At 6 a.m. it’s 60 degrees with fog in the Quad-Cities. Today we’ll see areas of fog with visibilities of a quarter mile or less before 9 a.m. and a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m. The high will be near 80 degrees and a low around 60 degrees,  according to the National Weather Service.

Olympic moment

Michael Phelps won the 200-meter butterfly, then swam the leadoff of a runaway victory last night by the U.S. 800 freestyle relay team to win his 10th and 11th Olympic gold medals. Phelps is now more than halfway to his goal of eight gold medals in Beijing.

Roadwork

• Another section of Jersey Ridge Road in Davenport is scheduled to close at 8 a.m. The street between Middle Road and East 11th Street will be closed to allow a contractor to install decorative crosswalks. The road will be closed until further notice, although access to businesses will be maintained.

• Crews will be out working today in Davenport on Brady Street (U.S. 61)  in both directions from Central Park Avenue to north of 59th Street. At least 2 lanes of traffic will be maintained in either direction from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. At least one lane of traffic will be open from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. until mid-November.

• Also, the U.S. 61 (River Drive) and Iowa 22 (Rockingham Road) interchange in Davenport will be closed from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning today until Aug. 21. Crews will be working on patching and shoulder replacement on interchange ramps. Traffic should use alternate routes during this time.

• Resealing asphalt on road shoulders on Interstates 380, 80 and 74 will restrict traffic to one lane in Linn, Cedar and Scott counties in Iowa beginning today. A single lane of roadway will be closed during moving operations starting on I-380 north of Cedar Rapids. The next phase will involve I-80 in Cedar County, followed by I-80 in Scott County and end with resealing on I-74 in Scott County. The  contractor will not work on I-80 and I-74 in Scott County between 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. daily. Work is slated for completion by mid-September.

Check for other area road work/closings and closings across Iowa and Illinois before you head out this morning.
