Good morning, Quad-Cities. At 6 a.m. it’s 61 degrees with a few clouds in the Quad-Cities. Today there’s a 30 percent chance of  isolated showers after 7 a.m. More clouds are expected to roll in before we reach a high near 80 degrees.  Tonight’s low will be around 58 degrees with a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1 a.m.,  according to the National Weather Service.

Olympic moment: Former Pleasant Valley athlete Christine Thorburn finished fifth in the women’s cycling time trial (14.6 miles) at Beijing, finishing just 3.17 seconds behind the bronze medalist.

Roadwork

Remember construction work continues on Jersey Ridge Road south of Kimberly Road and on Brady Street between Central Park Avenue and 59th Street in Davenport. You’ll also want to avoid Middle Road in Bettendorf as work continues there, too.

U.S. 34 Mississippi River crossing update: All U.S. 34 lanes are now open in Illinois east of the Great River Bridge at Burlington, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation.

The Great River Bridge, which had been closed for a month after a levee breech in Gulfport, Ill., reopened  July 18, however traffic in both directions on U.S. 34 was restricted to one lane and controlled by temporary traffic signals.

Check for other area road work/closings and closings across Iowa and Illinois before you head out this morning.

City of Moline continues debris collection

The City of Moline estimates it will be at least another four weeks for crews to complete their first pass through the city to collect debris and brush from the July 21 wind storm.

Public works crews have been working Monday through Friday to pick up trees, limbs and branches, but the cleanup job is enormous. Crews expect to do a second pass once the first pass is complete.

Because of the number of employees involved in the debris cleanup, street maintenance and park maintenance are being deferred while debris collection continues.

Residents may call the Debris Collection Hotline at (309) 797-0425 to hear a pre-recorded message on the location of the crews daily or visit the city’s Web site at moline.il.us.

Residents are asked to place tree limbs and brush at the curb for pickup by the city. Please cut limbs to 6- to 8-foot lengths so it is manageable to collect.

The city does not have a dropoff site for storm debris. Residents wishing to dispose of the debris privately should make their own arrangements.
