Good morning, Quad-Cities. At 6 a.m. it’s 61 degrees under fair skies. Today will be mostly sunny with a high near 81 degrees and a low around 52 degrees. The weekend also is shaping up to be a beaut with highs in the low- to mid-80s for Saturday and Sunday,  according to the National Weather Service.

Olympic moments: Michael Phelps wins his sixth gold metal of the Beijing Olympics as he closes in on Mark Spitz’ medal record. Gymnast Shawn Johnson of West Des Moines took silver in the individual all-around competition.

Roadwork

Rock Island County highway department has closed 277th Street North between 122nd Avenue North and 150th Avenue North for road repairs until 2:30 p.m. today.

It seems everywhere we turn we encounter some sort of road repair project. Check for where other area road work/closings and closings across Iowa and Illinois are before you head out this morning.

Also, check out our gas-price guide for the cheapest prices at the pumps in the Quad-Cities.
