The city of Moline is putting its name in lights with a new LED lighting and spotlight system on the water tower at the Water Treatment Plant located along the banks of the Mississippi River
A “Lighting of the Tower” ceremony will be held Tuesday immediately after the city council meeting, about 8:30 p.m. The ceremony will be held in the turn-around area at Bass Street Landing along Moline’s riverfront.
The lighting equipment was purchased using a portion of a rebate the city received from MidAmerican Energy Company for the Water Treatment Plant’s successful participation in a special program intended to control electrical demand during peak demand periods.
“This unique project will enhance the appearance of Moline’s night skyline and highlight the city’s strong historical tie to the Mississippi River,” Mayor Don Welvaert said.
Parking for the lighting event will be along 17th Street, as well as the city parking lot east of Stoney Creek Hotel, 101 18th St.
