FEMA approves $13M to flood victims

The Federal Emergency Management Agency and the U.S. Small Business Administration have approved more than $13.6 million in federal disaster assistance grants and loans for Illinois residents and business owners who suffered losses in the June flooding.
As of Friday, FEMA said that 3,095 homeowners and renters in Illinois from 18 designated counties have applied for disaster assistance.
Grants totaling $7,278,619 have been approved. Of that, more than $6.5 million will go toward housing assistance to cover temporary rental assistance, home repairs and home replacement.
About $705,000 will go to help cover personal property losses, medical, dental, funeral, transportation and other disaster-related expenses not covered by insurance.
A total of $6,389,100 in Small Business Administration, or SBA, disaster loans has been approved for 117 disaster assistance applicants.
Rock Island County received $632,536.60 for 544 applicants. Mercer County received $474,639.26 for 121 applicants. Whiteside County received $8,740.91 for eight applicants.
The other counties receiving funds include Adams, Calhoun, Clark, Coles, Crawford, Cumberland, Douglas, Edgar, Hancock, Henderson, Jasper, Jersey, Lake, Lawrence, and Winnebago.
SBA centers will remain open until Thursday, Aug. 28.
The center that serves Rock Island County and the surrounding area is located at the Milan Municipal Building, 405 E. 1st St., and is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Town meeting scheduled
The Community Outreach Church, East Moline, will host an informational town meeting on flood relief at UAW Local 865 from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at 630 19th St., East Moline.
Federal Emergency Management Agency and Small Business Administration officials, local government officials, local assistance agencies and community leaders will be on hand to provide information and continue the effort to ensure that all those in need of assistance understand what assistance is available and how to access it.
The meeting will provide a review of information on the registration process for SBA loans and clarify who qualifies for the different loans and grants.
The public is welcome to ask questions about all recovery efforts, including damages to personal property, and landlord, tenant and elderly qualifications.
