Jerry Alan Andresen, 41, of Maquoketa, Iowa, was identified as the motorcycle driver who was killed Saturday in a motorcycle/car accident in Davenport.

The accident happened shortly after 4 a.m. Saturday at Welcome Way and 53rd Street, according to Davenport Police.

A light blue 1988 Mercury Grand Marquis, driven by Robert B. Hartz, 21, of Sterling, Ill., struck the 2008 Kawasaki Vulcan motorcycle driven south on Welcome Way by Andresen.

The motorcycle apparently was traveling in the center lane approaching the intersection with 53rd Street, and the car was traveling west on 53rd Street in the center lane approaching the same intersection.

The vehicles both entered the intersection near the same time and the motorcycle struck the car’s side.

Andresen, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown from the motorcycle.

Both vehicles sustained heavy damage, police said.

Andresen was taken by Medic Ambulance to Genesis Hospital, East Rusholme Street, where he was pronounced dead.

Hartz was uninjured. His passenger in the front seat received minor injuries but refused medical treatment, police said.

The accident, which may have involved alcohol, remains under investigation by Davenport police. Police so far have not released which driver had the right of way, and the accident remains under investigation.
