There has been a lot of controversy over businesses, restaurants, and other public and outdoor areas becoming smoke-free throughout the state. Some people think it is their right to smoke whenever and wherever they choose. However, when health problems arise for individuals who do not smoke, the matter becomes one of concern to public health.

Secondhand smoke kills 53,000 non-smokers each year in the U.S. alone. So when we allow people to smoke in public areas, we are basically allowing other non-smokers to become victims.

Under the Constitution of the United States, it is the duty of the government to protect its people. Why is it such a crime for the government to implement laws that protect its people from this deadly killer?

When someone lights up they may know what they are doing to their own body, but do they realize they are endangering the lives of those around them?

The Smoke-Free Air Act has changed the lives of many throughout the state. People who do smoke should in no way be punished for their addiction; they should simply be aware of the harmful effects of smoking.

How can we expect the government to continue to allow smoking in public areas when there is an obvious health threat to others?
