The Scott County Board of Supervisors heard the end is near Tuesday.

A pair of change orders, totalling $30,105.66, could be among the last for work done on the 1983 jail renovation, completing the downtown Davenport jail project.

“These could be the last change orders you’ll see,” Dave Donovan, director of facility and support services, said at Tuesday’s Committee of the Whole meeting. “Ripley Street is close to returning to normal.”

A change order for $12,049 was for replacing deteriorated sewer lines, changes to security bars in air-conditioning ducts, plumbing changes and additional wiring.

A change order for $18,056.66 was for replacing a chiller in the air-conditioning system of the 1983 building and replacing stairwell lighting.

“There are a few last-minute things that could be required to change,” Donovan said.

Supervisors were curious about the completion of the skybridge between the courthouse and Davenport police department. Donovan said the bridge is completed, but the security door on the police station side must be installed. Scott County judges have been issued access cards and shown the route from the secured parking garage to the skybridge.

The end of one project is just the beginning of others, Donovan reminded the board. The county is awaiting bids on the Tremont Avenue jail annex renovation. County officials are part of the group meeting with architects for the Scott Emergency Communications Center that is overseen by a countywide commission.

“We have plenty to keep us busy,” Donovan said.
