The suffering is finally over for Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois cable subscribers who are fans of Big Ten athletics.

Mediacom, the dominant cable outlet in the two-state region, announced today that it has reached an agreement to carry the Big Ten Network in time for Saturday’s opening of the Big Ten college football season.

Mediacom officials said they will launch the Big Ten Network in phases on their expanded basic level of service in states with Big Ten universities. The network’s high-definition and video-on-demand programming also are included in the agreement. Mediacom customers will be notified when BTN becomes available in their community.

Mediacom is the nation’s eighth largest cable television company and the third major cable outlet to reach agreement with BTN this week. Charter Communication and Time-Warner also ended impasses with the network.
