Each of them played at least 10 years in the major leagues and hit at least 100 home runs.

And tonight, six former major league baseball stars of the 1970s, ’80s and ’90s will try to recapture some of their old magic at Modern Woodmen Park.

The Legends Home Run Derby will feature a competition amongst Jack Clark, Pedro Guerrero, Darrell Evans, Kevin Bass, Mike Devereaux and Brian McRae, all of whom have been retired from baseball for at least nine years.

The event begins at 6 p.m. although there are several hours of festivities both before and after the home run contest, including an autograph session; an appearance by Billy Staples, author of “Before the Glory’’; and the showing of the film “Field of Dreams.”

“This is our first venture of this kind,” said Tom Patten, one of the promoters of the event. “We wanted to bring this kind of thing to smaller venues to start with. I think it will be a novelty for the fans.”

The six competing players will be split into a National League team and an American League team even though all but one of them played at one time or another for teams in both leagues. Guerrero, a career National Leaguer, will be joined on the NL team by Clark and Bass with Evans, Devereaux and McRae comprising the AL team.
