Iowa American Water breaks ground for treatment plant near Clinton
CAMANCHE, Iowa — Iowa American Water officials broke ground Friday on a $4.5 million treatment plant that is expected to increase capacity and improve reliability of two wells in Camanche that serve Clinton and the surrounding area.
One of the two wells on the site east of U.S. 67 on the northern edge of Camanche has been inactive because of sand in the water. The new treatment plant, expected to be complete in February, will remove the sand, increasing the capacity daily capacity of the wells from about 2 million gallons a day to 3.4 million gallons per day. The new plant also will safeguard the quality of the water and improve reliability of the water system.
Iowa American Water has about 10,100 customers in the Clinton area.
The plant will be needed as Clinton continues to grow, Iowa American Water president Brock Earnhardt said.
“It’s said that everything that grows needs water,” he said. “So it is with a vibrant community such as ours.”
Clinton Mayor Rodger Holm said the project is “another example of the water company’s commitment to our community.”
