The number of candidates for the position of Scott County associate court judge for the Seventh Judicial District — being vacated by an embattled Kyle Williamson — has been whittled from 17 to three.

The Scott County Magistrate Commission nominated the three people Friday and will select one from that list to fill the position.

Mark R. Fowler received his bachelor of arts degree from Augustana College in 1990. He earned a master’s in business administration from St. Ambrose University in 1997 and his law degree from the University of Iowa in 1999. He is in private practice with the firm Gomez, May, Schutte, Yeggy, Bieber & Wells.

Henry W. Latham II received his degree from St. Ambrose University in 1986 and his law degree from the University of Iowa in 1989. He is in private practice in Davenport with the firm Brooks and Trinrud.

Thomas H. Preacher received his bachelor of arts degree from Dartmouth College, Hanover, N.H. He earned his law degree from the University of Iowa in 1980. He is in private practice in Bettendorf with the firm of Stafne, Lewis, Jasper and Preacher.

The associate judge position opened after Williamson’s resignation, effective Sept. 4. Williamson left the bench in January, just 10 weeks into his judgeship, as a criminal probe was launched into his activities. He is now facing state and federal fraud, identity theft and forgery charges.

Associate court judges handle lower-level felonies, drunken driving cases, misdemeanors and some civil actions. The position pays $122,400 a year.
