A Davenport man who attacked another man Saturday at the Howard Johnson’s Plaza Hotel in Davenport ended up being stabbed and arrested, police said.

The incident occurred at 5:23 p.m. on the sixth floor of the hotel which is located at 227 LeClaire St.

Deangelo Downs, 27, is charged with simple assault and harassment of a public official.

Davenport police Capt. David Struckman said that Downs went to the hotel with two other men to collect a drug-related debt from a Bettendorf man.

An altercation between Downs and the Bettendorf man escalated and Downs struck the other man numerous times, knocking him to the ground, Struckman said.

The man, in his own defense, pulled a knife from his pocket and cut Downs, who sustained a wound to his side. Downs went to Genesis Medical Center-East Rusholme Street, where he was treated for the non-life-threatening wound. While being interviewed by police Downs gave false information concerning his identity.

The other man suffered facial injuries. He was taken to Genesis East where he was treated and then released.
