I hear so many politicians on TV flapping their jaws.
I attended a meeting in DeWitt on Aug. 22 and a man by the name of Steve Smith was there. Smith announced he is running for state representative in the 83rd District in Iowa.
What really impressed me was there are things he really cares about. When he started talking about helping the small family farms of this state, he was actually emotional.
He is a small-businessman himself and he knows they are one of the vertebrae of the backbone of this country. He does not want to see the family farm become a memory.
He started talking about funding for pre-K schools. He and his wife have five kids and want to see this educational necessity happen.
He is also a member of the NRA. No, he does not want more gun control. After all, this is one of our freedoms.
Last but not least, he was very serious about protecting workers’ rights. What I heard when I listened to him speak was not a politician, but a good man who really meant what he was saying. He was not just flapping his jaws. Wow! What a nice change.
