QUAD-CITY TIMES

This September, the American Red Cross joins the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and a coalition of more than 1,500 organizations to raise public awareness about the importance of preparing for all types of emergencies.

“Preparing ahead of time will help you respond better in a disaster or emergency, and may even save your life,” said Betsy Pratt, chief executive officer of the American Red Cross of the Quad-Cities Area.

The Red Cross is offering these preparedness activities:

* Free one-hour trainings called “Be Red Cross Ready.” The trainings contain simple, down-to-earth advice on how you and your family can become safer, healthier and more resilient in the face of an emergency. To view an online presentation, visit qcredcross.org on the Web. To schedule a group presentation, call Scott at (309) 743-2166.

* Become a Red Cross volunteer. Volunteer orientations will be 10-11:30 a.m. Sept. 11 and 5-6:30 p.m. Sept. 16 at the Red Cross office, 1100 River Drive, Moline. To register, call Eileen at (309) 743-2166.

* Take a health and safety class. To view a complete list of classes, visit qcredcross.org.
