Alan and Rachel Haynes show their metal

Some folks’ scrap metal is an art medium for Alan and Rachel Haynes.

The couple — Rachel is a certified welder — creates art using leftover scraps of metal at their farm near Altona, Ill., in Knox County.

The Hayneses have displayed their work throughout Illinois, and it’s on exhibit now through Sept. 27 at the MidCoast Fine Arts Gallery at the Mississippi Valley Welcome Center south of LeClaire, Iowa, along Interstate 80.
