Cedar Rapids mayor accused of dozing off at meetings

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Cedar Rapids Mayor Kay Halloran says complaints that she nods off at times during City Council meetings have prompted her to undergo a physical examination.
Halloran says to the best of her knowledge, she doesn’t fall asleep during the Wednesday evening meetings. However, the 71-year-old says that since some people are insisting that she does nod off, she’ll get a physical just in case.
Halloran says she hasn’t had any vacation time in the past 12 weeks since record flooding caused major damage in her city. She says she plans to visit her son in North Dakota this month, and that she probably needs some recharging.
During this week’s City Council meeting, a local television station trained a camera on the mayor, catching what appears to be her dozing off.
Halloran is in the third year of a four-year term.
