Farmers and ranchers have until Sept. 16 to sign-up for ensuring eligibility for crop yield losses under the new supplemental revenue assistance program.
Sept. 16 is the last day to pay the buy-in fee for crops that are not fully covered by crop insurance or the noninsured crop disaster assistance program known as NAP. Grazing lands also are included.
The 2008 eligibility buy-in fee for supplemental disaster assistance is $100 per crop, but not more than $300 per producer per county, or $900 total per producer for all counties. Buy-in fees are not required for crops already covered by catastrophic risk protection or the noninsured crop disaster assistance program.
Producers who meet the definition of socially disadvantaged, beginning farmer or rancher, or limited resource farmer or rancher can have the eligibility fees waived.
Those who miss the deadline will not be eligible for supplemental disaster assistance for 2008 crops and livestock.
