Drilling remains part of long-term solution

No matter how much scenery we spoil with forests of wind turbines, and no matter how faithfully we maintain the air pressure in our tires, we are going to need all the oil we can get for the foreseeable future.
The Aug. 19 article, “Drilling won’t begin for years even if ban’s lifted,” painted a discouraging picture of government politics, legal and environmental requirements that would take years to meet even after the quantity of oil and the economic feasibility are verified. Yes, the environment has to be protected, but the process needs to be streamlined so that government stops creating obstacles and helps with the solution.
As to those who say we shouldn’t drill because it won’t pay off for 10 years, the answer is that one big reason we are in this energy predicament today, because we fell for that argument 10 years ago.
