Presidential decision being made easy

Any decision as profound as selecting a president warrants our best efforts to measure the candidates based on their merits, not on empty promises, hollow words and speeches written by professionals and read by candidates.

What does it mean to say, “I will bring change,” or, “I’ve been a maverick all my life?” Shouldn’t our president be chosen based on the big questions of the day?

* If our success in Iraq means staying and building military bases, which candidate best supports that idea?

* Our economy is fragile and more taxes will only slow our growth even more. Which candidate best represents lower taxes?

* Big government is a tremendous drain on revenue.

* One candidate has offered to negotiate with the president of Iran. How can you trust a mad man who believes that lying to promote Iran’s agenda is acceptable?

Take the time to examine each candidate in depth, ask questions and not just look at the shiny exterior. Just because it looks good doesn’t mean it will perform. You owe it to your neighbors and your kids to treat your vote like the gift it is and not squander it recklessly.

P.S. Sarah Palin is a brilliant vice presidential choice by John McCain.
