Area residents can safely dispose of old prescription and over-the-counter medications, inhalers and mercury thermometers during Aledo Antique Days from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 13 in Aledo Central Park (across the street from the county courthouse).
Before bringing in the medications, empty pill containers into a plastic zip bag. Liquid medications should be left in original containers. Package mercury thermometers to prevent breakage. All personal information should be scratched out or covered with permanent marker. These items are unacceptable: needles or syringes, pet medications, controlled substances, IV bags, bloody or infectious wastes, personal care products, aerosol cans or radioactive wastes. Business waste will not be accepted.
The collection is sponsored by the Mercer County Health Department and Tri-County Resource and Waste Management Council. For more information, call (309) 582-3759 or (309) 837-3941.
