Officials at United Township High School are investigating potentially threatening graffiti they found Tuesday afternoon scrawled on a boys bathroom wall, according Superintendent Jay Morrow.

Morrow declined to specify what the message said or who found it. He said it was found about 12:30 p.m. and mentioned something happening Thursday. Staff called East Moline police, who are aiding in the investigation. The district will hold school as scheduled Thursday but will take additional precautions.

Parents can opt to keep their children home, but it will be counted as an absence, Morrow said.

“We will be more vigilant in keeping an eye on things, and we’ll be more visible,” he said. “We don’t feel it’s a serious threat, but nonetheless we still have to investigate.”

Classes were not interrupted after officials found the message because it mentioned events that would happen Thursday. Parents will receive notification, although officials had yet to decide whether to send it via voicemail, e-mail or written letter, Morrow said.
