Nineteen elite athletes, including six former champions, have made commitments to run in the 11th annual Quad-Cities Marathon later this month.

Among the runners who have said they will run in the Sept. 28 race, which begins and ends at John Deere Commons in Moline, are four runners who have completed a marathon in less than 2 hours, 20 minutes this year.

Heading the list is David Tuwei of Kenya, who ran 2:13:44 in June to place second at Grandma’s Marathon in Duluth, Minn. He will be challenged by defending Quad-Cities champion Genna Tufa of Ethiopia, who was seventh at Grandma’s in 2:17:57; Kenya’s Bruce Kilulai, who was eighth in the Duluth race in 2:18:24; and current Quad-Cities record-holder Jynocel Basweti of Kenya, who ran 2:19:31 to take second in the D-M News Salt Lake Marathon.

Also back will be Kenya’s Andrew Musuva, who became the only two-time champion of the Q-C race by winning here in 2002 and 2004.

Headlining the women’s field are a pair of Russians — Larisa Mikhaylova, who second in the Quad-Cities last year, and Nadezhda Tuptova, who won this year’s Kentucky Derby Marathon.
