Good morning, Quad-Cities. At 6 a.m. it’s 48 degrees under mostly cloudy skies. Must be from that giant dark cloud that’s hanging over Wrigley Field after the Cubs lost another to the Dodgers last night. Is there any hope for Cubs fans?
Today will be mostly sunny with a high near 65 degrees. Tonight there will be patchy frost after 4 a.m. with a low around 38 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
Looking ahead to the weekend, there will be patchy frost before 8 a.m. on Saturday with a high near 66 degrees. In the evening there is a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms with a low around 49 degrees. On Sunday there’s a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms with a high near 71 degrees.
Iowa flags fly at half staff
Iowa Gov. Chet Culver has ordered all flags in the state be flown at half staff today from 8 a.m. until sunset in honor of Staff Sgt. Nathan Cox, 32, of Davenport who died on Sept. 20 while serving in Afghanistan. Cox served three years in Bosnia in the mid-1990s and rejoined the Army when he was 29. He served a year in Iraq before he was sent to Afghanistan. Funeral services are today.
Savanna to Sabula bridge reopens
The bridge across the Mississippi River that links Sabula, Iowa to Savanna, Ill., is open for traffic again. The U.S. 52/Iowa-Illinois 64 bridge closed Sept. 3 for repairs. Work is continuing on the bridge, and traffic will be limited to one lane for at least four to six weeks as the project continues.
U.S. 61 reduced to one lane
U.S. 61 in Scott County has been reduced to one lane for maintenance work. Workers are out doing joint and crack sealing from Locust Street in Davenport north to Scott County Road F-33. Travelers will be assisted through the work area by flaggers and a pilot car. The open lane has a 12-foot lane width restriction in place. The roadway will be returned to normal when crews are not present. The project is expected to be completed by the end of October.
Utica Ridge Road project pushed back
That Utica Ridge Road project in Bettendorf has been pushed back to Oct. 13. Work will take place between Spruce Hills Drive and Tanglefoot Lane.
