Deere & Co. has stepped forward to sponsor an Oct. 25 effort to continue cleanup efforts in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Buses will leave at 7 a.m. from United Way of the Quad-City Area office, 3247 E. 35th St. Court, Davenport, and return by 5 p.m. Volunteers will clean out flooded houses so rebuilding can begin.
Deere will supply transportation, lunches and safety supplies for volunteers.
“I’m not sure that all people realize the extent of the work still to be done in Cedar Rapids,” said Scott Crane, United Way president. “The area affected was so vast that the cleanup will be happening for months. With winter coming soon, we want to do what we can as soon as possible to help.”
Almost 5,400 homes were impacted by the Cedar River flooding in June. Although more than 75 million tons of debris have been removed from homes and businesses, more cleanup work remains. To volunteer, register online at unitedwayqc.org or contact Melisa Jacobsen at (563) 344-0342.
