CLINTON, Iowa — A Clinton man charged with setting a fire in his mother’s home allegedly told police officers who fought to remove him from the home “we’re all going to heaven.”

Police and firefighters were dispatched to 139 N. 5th St. at 11:49 a.m. Sunday when Lucille Petersen called to report her son, Patrick D. King, had lit his bedroom on fire, according to court records.

When police entered the residence, King allegedly held his fists in the air and said, “Let’s fight, I’m staying here.”

King allegedly punched one officer in the head before being subdued with a Taser, according to court records.

The fire was quickly extinguished and caused about $2,000 damage to the home, according to the Clinton Fire Department.

King was charged with first-degree arson, assault on a peace officer inflicting bodily injury and interference with official acts inflicting bodily injury.

He was being held Monday in the Clinton County Jail on $25,000 bond. If convicted, King faces 32 years in prison.
