Good morning, Quad-Cities.  At 6 a.m. it’s 61 degrees with fair skies in the Quad-Cities. Today there is a  slight chance of showers early this morning, then a 100 percent chance of showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 7 a.m. The high will be near 70 degrees. Tonight, showers are likely before 1 a.m. with a low around 51 degrees. The chance of precipitation is 70 percent with new rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible,  according to the National Weather Service.

Tonight presidential hopefuls John McCain and Barack Obama meet in a town-hall style debate in Nashville, Tenn. It’s the second of three debates and begins at 8 p.m.

Road resurfacing to begin on Central Avenue in Bettendorf

Beginning sometime between Thursday and Monday, Central Avenue in Bettendorf will undergo surface milling and asphalt overlaying. Work is expected to take a week to 10 days. Two-way traffic will be maintained, but traffic delays could result where moving equipment is in progress.  Watch for flagmen during daylight hours between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

North Lincoln Avenue in Davenport

Drivers may want to avoid North Lincoln Avenue in Davenport, from Waverly Road to around W. 13th Street. As many of you know, this section of North Lincoln  has been rough driving the past couple of weeks due to a repaving project. However, the mess is bigger as several coats of oil were laid down on Lincoln on Monday afternoon in preparation for resurfacing today, according to one driver who regularly takes that route.

U.S. 61, John Deere Road

U.S. 61 in Scott County is reduced to one lane for maintenance work. Workers will be out doing joint and crack sealing from Locust Street in Davenport north to Scott County Road F-33. Travelers will be assisted through the work area by flaggers and a pilot car. The roadway will be returned to normal when crews are not present. The project is expected to be completed by the end of October.

Meanwhile, Moline continues work on John Deere Road west of the 16th Street intersection with work scheduled to wrap up in mid-October. Work is being done one lane at a time to maintain traffic flow. Also, the contractor is working nights when lower traffic volumes allow closing additional lanes.

Utica Ridge Road project pushed back

That Utica Ridge Road project in Bettendorf has been pushed back to Oct. 13. Work will take place between Spruce Hills Drive and Tanglefoot Lane.
