UPDATE: Belmont Road has reopened. The road reopened about 10:30 a.m. for commuter traffic to Scott Community College after being closed since 8:30 a.m.

The road was closed while Bettendorf police and fire responded to a gas leak at 4840 Belmont Road. The fire department ventilated the home to remove the gas. No one was home at the time of the gas leak. There were no injuries.

EARLIER STORY: Utility work has closed a portion of Belmont Road near Scott Community College, according to college spokesman Alan Campbell.

The road is closed from about Pleasant Valley High School to the college, so students and staff cannot access the college entrance from that direction, he said. It is expected to be closed until about noon.

Those driving to the college should take U.S. 67 to Valley Drive to Belmont Road.
