ALEDO, Ill. — Mercer County residents now have a place to safely dispose of unwanted or unused prescription and non-prescription medications as the Mercer County Health Department teams up with the Tri County Solid Waste Council to serve as a collection site.

“Any prescription medication, all over-the-counter medications, ointments, inhalers, thermometers that might have mercury in them, those can all be brought to the health department,” registered nurse Julie Bickle said.

The medications can be dropped off during normal business hours from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

“We just ask that any medications be emptied out of their original containers into zip-lock bags so that we don’t have any personal information about anyone,” Bickle said.

The health department is located at 1007 Northwest 3rd St. in Aledo. For additional information, call (309) 582-3759.
