Moline offers residents leaf disposal options

Moline will provide free leaf bag collection from Wednesday to Dec. 15 and will waive the normal $2 sticker fee.

Leaves must be bagged in large paper yard waste bags and placed at curbs at least

3 feet away from garbage carts. A separate yard waste truck will pick up bags. Hardware and grocery stores sell yard waste bags.

Leaf vacuuming will run Nov. 3 to Dec. 15. Residents are encouraged to bag leaves rather than wait for vacuum collection. Two vacuuming crews will work in three areas Monday through Friday beginning at the Mississippi River and working southward toward the Rock River. Crews will begin working where they ended the previous day.

To find the daily location of crews, listen to a recorded message at (309) 797-0425 or visit moline.il.us. Leaves should be raked close to, but not on, roadways. Rocks, sticks or other debris should be removed and vehicles should not be parked in front of leaves.

Moline residents may also burn dry leaves, lawn refuse and twigs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays during daylight when prevailing wind speed is no greater than 15 mph. Leaf fires must be kept at least 25 feet from all building structures, a garden hose must be nearby and residents must keep watch over the fire. Burning is not allowed during rainy, wet or drought conditions. Bagging leaves as opposed to burning helps improve air quality.
