Diabetes, a disease that affects more Americans every day of the week, will be the focus topic of this week’s Health Chats, set for 9 a.m. Thursday on Quadsville, the community Web site sponsored by the Quad-City Times.

Dr. Amber Peterson of Trinity Family Medical Associates in Cambridge and Geneseo, Ill., will headline the online discussion.

Diabetes is one of the top 10 killers of Americans, according to the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta. It is now 7th leading cause of death, improving from the 6th position in the last year, the CDC recently reported.

Peters earned her medical education at the University of Illinois, Chicago. She did her residency at Hinsdale Hospital in suburban Chicago, and is board certified in family medicine.

To participate Thursday: call up the Quadsville Web site at www.quadsville.com and look at the blog post with the title, “Live Chat: Diabetes with Dr. Peterson.” When you open the post, you will see a “chat window” that will be activated at 9 a.m. Simply type in your name and question in the appropriate fields, and hit “send.”

Moderator Melissa Coulter will slot the questions into the online discussion, so they may not immediately appear. After the session concludes it can be replayed at any time so viewers can read what was discussed.
