Voters in the Aledo School District approved the Aledo-Westmer consolidation proposal by a 2,721-to-714 vote Tuesday night with Westmer voters passing the issue by a 1,034-to-458 vote.
“I am very thankful,” said Committee of 10 Co-Chair Victor Johnson of Aledo. “We really didn’t know how this was going to come out. We were hoping that we would win, but we didn’t know whether it would be close.”
The consolidated district becomes effective next school year. The Committee of 10 recommended that the consolidated high school be housed at the existing Aledo High School with the current Aledo Junior High housing fifth and sixth graders. Westmer Secondary School in Joy would serve as home to seventh and eighth graders and both Apollo Elementary in Aledo and New Boston Elementary will house kindergarten through fourth grade students.
