Faith, Marismom, you two are writing on the assumption that they are all here under honorable circumstances. Did you miss the comment I made that there are no easy answers to this issue? I stated that throwing them all out is not practical or is blanket amnesty practical either. I felt that it should be handled on a case by case basis. You don't know if any of the undocumented already have criminal records in their home countries or are part of the terrorist groups the president has a war with.
There is one case where a pervert will be sent home to Mexico after he serves his prison sentence for child molestation. We don't know if he was already had a record for that but it's one thing to worry about.
The problem with Lucas is he is so high profile and we don't want our teens drinking and driving. I agree though, I've been known in my past to make a bad judgement and drive. I was in my early twenties so I would hope that as someone gets older maybe they get wiser? His last one was ten years ago and you have to ask how many times in the last ten years did he do it and not get caught?
Betty, I'm ashamed to say I don't even know her name off the top of my head. If he goes she could very well be hired.
I really believe that if you heard the people at the church in Postville talk of the terror in the childrens eyes you wouldn't feel compassion for the people. . Today, I heard of a crying 8 year holding his 10 mo. old brother with a 3 year old sibling at his side afraid he might never see his Mother again. He had no idea where she was or if she would ever be able to come back to him. I heard that the children at the Postville school who are not recent immigrants were having nightmares because they don't under that if ICE could take away their friends parents that the same wasn't going to happen to them. I listen through the tears of tired workers in Postville, the frustration of trying to locate members of families.
I suspect that the people on this blog who have shown such hatred of others have been treated badly themselves. So I will pray for you along with the people of Postville tonight.
In Mackinaw City MI most of the population goes on unemployment in the winter because the only industry they have is tourism, and if you want to visit the Upper Penninsula of MI in the winter then you're either an Eskimo or a Green Bay Packers fan. So most of the town collects unemployment so that their business will reopen in the spring. My stepbrother is a lazy a--hole with two kids who lets his wife support him on $15 an hour. He works just enough to get the next 6 months off. They have no money, they are losing their house, but it isn't because the economy is so bad, it's because he won't get another job. Don't you think at some point they would counsel him to find employment in another field? He's an independent contractor now who installs sprinklers and does odd jobs.
These food prices are ridiculous, no matter if you're on food stamps or not. I like how some people on this blog are thinking that only poor people need food stamps. Telling them to just "get a job". You and i both know if only it were that easy. I was a single guy who just got layed off of work. I applied for food stamps and was approved. I was on those for a year, not because i wanted to be on them, but cause i had no other choice. Again, jobs are not easy to come by. I do agree that it is B.S. when someone buys $30 worth of cigs or lottery tickets and then pulls out an EBT card. But who are we to say anything. Yes, I know its our tax money that pays for it, and like every other thing that iowa likes to tax us for, it sucks. But i guess you cant understand it if you haven't had to deal with it. The same applies to welfare checks. I've always said, If i have to take a piss test to get a job, you should have to take a piss test to get government aid.
The thing that bothers me about this guy is he is a liar. You dont have one beer at 2:00 pm and blow a .118 at 5:00 pm. He is a liar or a big time drunk is denial. Bettendorf schools are some of the best in the state. They didnt get that way by being lead by a drunk. Get rid of the guy, he has had one chance to many to kill someone on the highway.
You know I could write what I really feel but seems like most of you would rather just call someone a dumbass instead of understanding their point of view and that is really sad.
I'm with Faith, I challenge each and every one of you to see out a person who immigrated legally to the US from a Latin American country and ask them to tell you their story. You'll be amazed at the amount of hassle they have to go through compared with immigrants from more developed nations. There is bias in the system and until it's addresses by our govt, and until economic conditions in Mexico can sustain it's population there will always be people desperate enough to commit illegal acts to gain a greater freedom.
2cents- American born citizens can't be compared to third world nations because are standard of living is so much higher, even for our poorest. If they fail to take advantage of all our great nation offers and they end up in prison it's comparing apples to oranges.
2. I like tree's & think we should have more of them.
3. I believe we should attempt to rehabilitate people rather than simply engaging in draconian punishments that simply ensure a high rate of recidivism.
4. We are in a process of imprisoning more and more of our population than in times past. Our society is sick and the old "common sense' cures obviously aren't working.
PART TWO
1. This man gave a gun to someone else who actually killed the victim. He was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter.
2. His other charges, aside from shooting someone in the leg, are misdemeanor assault charges or vandalism charges.
3. 30 days or two years in jail is not going to turn this man around. Either on their own would simply push him further into criminal behavior than he has already gone.
CONCLUSION:
A combination of punitive measures & rehabilitative counselling would seem to be a reasonable approach. Strong ties to family & church are good also.
I think he is a current informant or doing some undercover or something like that, how else can he continue to get a slap on the wrist time after time after time after time, ect. ect. I stole a twelve pack of beer in 1989 and went to L.A. county jail for seven days-of course I didn't pay the $100 fine (I was 18 and broke) so it turned into a warrent, but I never shot anyone or did anything serious, this guy is a model criminal.
Food pantry. What kinds of things do you donate as I've only been once to take someone. My daughter went and brings me bread mix for a machine. How many poor people use bread machines? Like how much do they get that is taken but not used?
Anyway, I try to always contribute to food drives things that I will eat myself. I've often wondered if they get enough protein donations so always try to include a can of pink salmon. Aldi's is good and cheap. But I just wonder what needy people will eat? Pork and beans is probably good, too, some protein in the beans.
Mexican food if you make it yourself is pretty cheap. Refried beansrice are cheap and fairly nutritious.
Confess I didn't read the article, header was enough. I don't begrudge poor people a helping hand, even charcoal really. Ground beef char broiled tastes better. But a cart full of steaks & luxury stuff regularly w/food stamps kind of ticks me off, once in a blue moon for a treat I wouldn't hold against them.
alertreader, you got a hummer? Lucky you! I just set my feeder out, but it hasn't attracted any yet. We had a couple last year.
penelope, we had our share of that type of thing, too. I never took my kids to McD's too often, just for a treat and even though I had to work, I cooked almost every night a regular meal, meat, potatoes and veggies and/or salad. We had Kraft dinners for fill in and I still love fish sticks. But the odd thing is that my kids all loved homemade split pea soup which is fairly cheap and lasted us at least 3 days. I usually saved up ham bones (now juice)but found ham hocks are just as good for flavor and fairly cheap, then threw in carrots, celery & leaves, & onion, ran it through the food mill. Lentil soup they didn't like so well.
I feel fortunate that I had a job plus help from family so didn't have to worry 2 much abt food budget, and very occasionally we had steak. Now I do splurge on fresh salmon which I love, but we didn't have much fish then.
Wow, this judge is out there! Time for a drug test or psych work-up for the lady shuffling around in the robe? Maybe we need to install a giant flush lever on the courthouse. Screwed up, on the take, easily manipulation, or just dumb as a rock.
If this guy screws up, it's on you, judge. 100%. Period.
AK - You said, "You will take the part that says Love Thy Neighbor to heart, (your choice, not mine) but you angrily cry out that gays are acceptable even though the Bible says no, but I am just going to ignore *that* part. " I took that as meaning, the leviticus was more important than love thy neighbor. My bad. I read your response wrong.
Michael Burt: If he'd just picked up the phone & said "Dad, why didn't you go into Baghdad?" he'd have been OK. GWB trusted the wrong people. That's a character flaw we don't want to see repeated. Do we?
This is where you loose your credibility ..........are you trying to tell us that W was to damm stupid to get advise from his father seperate from those who sit on his cabinet.?.....Bush might not be the brightest bulb in the box, but we all know he is smater then you make him to be!
Demorats- Its always the liberals fault eh? Those dang liberals just want criminals running the streets, and performing abortions on church altars don't they!?
I understand that places to shop in the inner city are limited and that it might be wonderful to be able to spend money at midnight. I feel the same way on payday. I boot up the computer, check my balance, and off I go. The child looks old enough to be in preschool and to think that she would have to sit in class the next day after her midnight trip disturbs me. Also she is teaching her kid to spend her money as soon as she gets it.
We've had a couple of close calls through the year where we lived paycheck to paycheck and had to choose between groceries and going to the doctor. I've given up eating fruit for weeks so that my kids could eat it. I know 101 ways to cook ground beef. We have almost had to go to a food pantry. Tough times come and go, what I worry about is the patterns that are being set here.
We are teaching the next generations that it's okay to save your money for the cools stuff and let everyone else pay for your necessities.
chavacastaneda; It is because of your beligerant rantings that make us remember those folks wrapped in Mexican flags, that people here have overwhelmingly voted to send them back quickly on the sidebar poll.
by "she" and "her" in my earlier post I meant the assist. super... sorry if it confused anyone. Someone posted before me so it didn't really follow very well.
She also thinks the best way to teach students is the latest and greates trends in computer programs. She has pushed computer based learning down the throats of the teachers whether they thought it was best or not... she needs to go too.
Before they decide what to do, anyone on that board who has ever drank a few drinks then gotten behind a wheel should recuse themselves.
oh look, there's no one left.
the fact is, almost 85% of the population should have an OWI on their record. My guess, is at least half of the board is included in that statistic. Should they lose their positions too?
Heck, Dubya has one. Dick Cheney has two. People make mistakes. Give him another chance.
I really hope this man takes advantage of the opportunity he has been given. When he gets done with his 30 days, I hope he uses better judgement and works with the people who can help him turn his life around. We need to find a way to help young people find self respect and feel good about who they are. When we treat children like they are less then everyone else, we reap what we sow.
Mr. Peck, I would suggest writing your complaints to the airport management and leave your personal opinions for something with substance, it seems no one here feels too sorry for you, and I have to agree. Shuttle bus? Are you kidding, it takes MAYBE 10 minutes to walk from the furthest place from the parking lot to the terminal. As others have stated I consider the QC Airport extremely efficient, just as others have stated have you NOT been to O'Hare or Atlanta, or LaGuardia, try finding a spot there and fanagle (sp?) your way around, you will find much more friendly people here at QC than those cities, I guarantee it. Perception is a pretty powerful thing, "shouting" how about an employee enforcing the rules, grow some thicker skin and play by the rules, if you did, ignore him it's really not that big of a deal. As far as the International designation, it is International (within the US); not Intercontinental (overseas) (like Houston, ORD, ATL, MSP),... get it??!!
Wow, maybe Mr. Lane can cut workers from OUTSIDE the country, instead of inside, but in the name of glorious profit, and, his $54,000,000 a year, that option is off the table.
wapsirat: Sorry I did not understand your first blog here with all the spelling errors that you made. I have been in that situation but I got out as fast as I could. This is America for God sakes and there is opportunity for all if one wants it. Free hand outs seemed to be preferred most of the time however!
It's a shame because when I've met him he seems nice. Many parents in the district that I've talked to want him gone. I'm worried about our assistant superintendent who wants to dumb down all the schools so that what one elementary school in bett does they all have to do.
fallon89: I also spotted that bag of charcol right after I read the headliner.. When Deere and the UAW had the BIG strike in "86" At that time I owned an old motor home, drove it every day to work. I didn't own it long enough to have any principal to sell. wife had a big Lincoln same thing, and we owned two old properties in the middle of the winter with no profit there either.. We wern't eligible for assistance because the UAW wanted the strike and we were not laid off--l--who paid all those great taxes year after year and only finally received food stamps and heat assistance two weeks before we went back to work? That floks was the six month strike, and then we understood what "paying your dues meant." Oh Yes we understood what food pantries were about and really felt the "HONOR YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF" BUT I STILL WONDER ABOUT THE CREDIBILITY OF THAT CHARCHOL?
Did you happen to notice how much money you have to have to even apply for Mexican citizenship ?
Faith:
No I haven't talked to some one like you describe. However I do know "citizens" who have broken laws in this country and have had their families torn apart.. It's hard to feed a family on the money an inmate makes in prison, but I've yet to see the outcry for those familes that has poured out for these criminals. And YES they are "criminals ". How can you justify laying the guilt on us ? Those people gambled on not getting caught and they lost. I'll even venture to guess that for some of them this isn't the first ime they have been causht and maybe not the last.
Pshebelskiwas....give it a break. I have stood up to Pachino when i was a corrections officer at the Scott County Jail. And i can tell you, there is no helping him. You want him to find God, fine, but let him find God through a prison chaplain Is it any wonder he can't get his thinking process right? Yeah its kinda hard to get your thinking process right when your high or hanging with the wrong crowd. Im the same age as Pachino, I've served my country, been to college, and have a great job. Who did that for me...ME! Not anyone else. Pachino needs to take responsibilities for his actions. Who cares if people, myself included, talk bad about him. He is a grown @ss man. He should be able to block out what others are saying about him and do right. But the problem is, he can't. Yes my mother did teach me to respect human life, which is why I have not murdered anyone, shot at a cop, or hit someone with a pipe, unfortunately that can not be said for Pachino.
All these comments and none of you have the balls to stand up to Mr. Hill. How pathetic! Is it any wonder he can't get his thinking process right. when he feels everybody wants to kill him or let him rot in jail the rest of his life.
Pachino, I wiil pray for you and hope you can learn to change your attitude, before you turn stone cold." I am serious about the stone cold. Your mother has told you that, your preacher has told you that also. No one will save your butt but you. I hope you learn to play chess before it's too late. Chess is a game here you think one step ahead of your opponent. Your opponet is to be a living vegetable, or death if you continue to choose wrong paths to a short mental high! Stand up and be a man and let those previous posters rant as they will, They act that way because their momma never taught them to respect all human life. You do understand respect, don't you?
Usually I don't like to get into this subject as I'm torn over it. Anyway, it's kind of funny in an ironic sort of way that someone posted to a forum where I lurk from Oregon no less on Friday, May 9, about this detention center at the Waterloo cattle fairgrounds, got the dates right, only the implication was more sinister, said it was for "a drill", then linked to a conspiracy-type site that linked to Waterloo and Des Moines papers. Won't post a link to where I saw all that. The one and only comment he got was "Your sources are more than a bit over top. Wingnuts on the loose!" So I guess it was out there in advance that those fairgrounds had been rented by FEMA and/or ICE. Now we know what for, and it turned out to be true.
Are you serious? This is why the quad cities has gone to sht. Young people see this dumb @ss continually get probation, a month in jail or church and they figure well hell i can do that. A month for probation violation. Unbelievable. I feel sorry for our police officers, and citizens who have to put up with a sh*tty court system that continuously lets guys/gals like this get away with their actions. Let me steal a loaf of bread from Jude Daltons home and i guarantee I'd be locked up for at least 6 months to a year. Judge Christine Dalton you have failed as a judge. I need to get voted in as Scott County Associate District Judge, I'd make sure criminals were put where they belong...jail or prison..not church or probation.
You can get a lot more w/food stamps than they used to allow. Plus I think a lot of people get WIC in addition to food stamps, don't know if they have that in Chicago.
Years ago I got some tomatoes from a local farmer, and he told me about a gal(s) on welfare who bought a bunch of tomatoes from him and scrambled for jars to can them. Most don't seem to want to learn how to do that any more which is a shame. There is no substitute for home-canned tomatoes.
Also can applesauce when I have apples, not econ to buy at store to can, but it is delicious and lasts a long time.
200amp service to power my house was nearly 100k. But I'm an electric hog. 5k for installation but the panels aren't cheap by any means. At least the decent ones aren't. Batteries have to be replaced every 4 to 5 years. (Toxic Waste). No energy is without cost in some way. Danger, real dollars, environmental destruction etc.
I am shocked that the conversation on this blog. I pray that most of you are not a representation of the Quad Cities. I just don't get how anyone can think of little children living in terror and families being torn apart that think that any of this is ok. Have any of you ever sat down with a person who has left their home and familiy to come to this country, because they can't stand to see their children hungry? I can assume that you would let your children starve before you would break a law? I wish you could hear the stories of the people working to help the people in Postville. I believe even the most hard hearted of you would change your retoric.
Zekee, sorry bud, while states can make unconstitutional laws, if challenged they're going to lose. And it is unconstitutional.to deny people their basic civil rights, like the pursuit of happiness. Ellen & Portia sure look happy too, don't they. We sure can't have that, nossiree. As for changing the constitution, where were you when Bush and his fellow hateful Fundies lost that silly quest not so long ago? I don't know about you, but since I'm straight, laws affecting gay people mean nothing to me. Nope, none of my business.
I've never been on food stamps in my life I don't think, one bad short period, maybe. I buy what I want at the store, but am not in the habit of eating high on the hog. Whenever I can get there, I go to Aldi's and buy what I like from there, they have a lot of quality, inexpensive food. Then I head for one of the other stores. TV dinners are 10/$10, but not good for you to eat too often. One of my favs is, and I can only find it at Wal Mart is the giant elbow macaroni and knockoff Velveeta, sometimes even that is cheap and make mac & cheese. When I do cook chili, casseroles, etc., I usually cook like when kids were home and freeze in ziplock freezer bags. Home made soup is really economical, freeze that, too.
I doubt she can grow her own food unless they have community gardens. Veggies are relatively cheap, but homegrown always nice, I try to can my own tomatoes & fruits when I can get nice stuff cheap, there are lots of ways you can save. I never liked messing with coupon
Look Here, I was not intending to be mean but you were and I busted you on it. I work with the elderly and have worked with others in lower income. But you judged what I said and made it what you wanted it to be. I will pray however not for myself but for you that you never have to deal with what I have seen clients go through. It is apperent that you have your opnion and I have mine just base yours on facts. I am now done with this it is a waste of time to agure with people on web sites.
penelope glad you are doing good.Isn't aldi a wonderful thing. true coupons are for name brand but on occasion if it on sale plus a coupon it cheaper not often though. I live for those buys. I like you can't spell never coulpd. lol
You've got to admit this is some kind of revolution. On the one hand I find it troubling but on the other I have to wonder why not give it a chance and see what kind of numbers gay couples compile where divorce is concerned. The heterosexuals aren't doing too well.
Would you believe when food stamps first came out I couldn't afford them? My budget allowed $60 a month for groceries, and that included soap and toilet paper. The super brains figuring all this out said I needed to buy $120 worth of food stamps for $70. That extra $10 would have put me in the red, and it was way more than I normally spent. We ate a lot of frijoles and tortillas, and I mean made from dry beans and I pat-pat-patted out those tortillas. I also made my own baby food, so easy it's ridiculous to buy it. Folks would be surprised how far their money will go if they quit thinking food has to come out of a window or a box.
And, what the he** was he doing out anyway, I believe that was the day the Highway Patrol had no-travel warnings in effect. A real mastermind, this one.
LQQK HERE: one problem folks in poor neighborhoods is lack of access to large grocery stores. Those don't tend to exist in the inner city. The do not have cars or money for cabs - obviously hauling little kids and groceries on two or three city buses does not work very well.
Many folks getting food stamps are working poor - others have psychiatric problems and/or medical ones that make them unable to work. Some are 'slow,' did not go far in school, and really have little capacity to work.
As to shopping at midnight - when you have children and are out of food you go as soon as you get some money to buy milk etc.
As to having babies - let's remember that it takes two to have a baby - the women get the kids to try to support and the blame for needing help doing that - as usual
Hi wapsi! I'm ok, except I can't spell. We finally got an Aldies up my way, and go there a lot. It is a little easier now that the kids are on their own.
Don't judge everyone on food stamps by a few loosers that get them. And for all the folks saying to use cupons, those are usually for name brands, off brands are cheaper.
Penolpe how you been haven't seen you for awhile, I agree buy cheap foods that strech and love aldis. Have you checked out some of the stores 10 for ten deals awsome. I miss double coupon day don't you.
In the obit section today, one of my shopmates I haven't seen since the 80s.
The obit doesn't tell you what a nice guy he was, and how he took in his daughter and grandson when she "got in trouble." We fought over the Hawks v. the Illini all the time. He was utility man and could do all the jobs on the paint line. I feel empty in a place I didn't know he occupied, so to speak.
We were a brotherhood till we got sold and then the plant closing was announced.
Look here ,since apparentling my post timed out so sorry if posts twice. I do not get food stamps I work with elderly through the state did you not read when I said I have not worked for the state of IL. BUt I do in IOwa second I do not have medicom cable is a waste and thier internet is high price dial up is fine and cheap. My computer is 7 years old not that it is any of your business. I do agree with many things said drug test should be required. There should be education on budgting and making you money last. The first thing I tell any client is shop sales, at aldi and never buy brand name. Iam just tired of the across the board judgments. That is why this article is stupid it makes it look like all people on food stamps are like this when that is not the case. I am sure that abuse happens and it should be stoped. JUst for the record I could care less what you think just get the facts right before runing your mouth or fingers in this case. oh My only child is 23 and works 2 jobs
If people on food stamps would use coupons that would help stretch the food $. If they would buy cheaper cuts of meat that would help also. If they would shop at a regular grocery store instead of a quick shop or convience store the $'s would go farther. A mother and child(ren) quailify for WIC if they meet the Federal Income Guidelines. WIC benefits doesnt effect your food stamps. Each child food package is worth $50-$60 a month. Quaification for WIC is all gross monthly income per household. This applies whether the parents are married or not--if they live in the same household both incomes would be considered. The food package stays the same as long as the income requirements are met. WIC is for pregnant, post partam and children birth to age 5.
What a joke!..I am sure glad I don't live in Scott County these days. I wish I could get my children to move their families from there too. The Scott Co law enforcement agencies and the judicial system that let this idiot walk are a joke. Wake up people.
Are you being serious or just trying to start the arguing? The pictures of the three people arrested was posted on qconline earlier today - 2 white people and 1 black person apprehended. Not that it should make much of a difference what color they were.
For someone that should set some standards for the entire school system; is this the example and role model you want for your kids? I say get rid of him.
I want you all to know that my husband and I work our butts off each week and still are hoping to have enough to get groceries for our 2 boys...we dont recieve food stamps and guess what we have no food pantry in town...I myslef havent eaten meat in week so my kids can...welcome to hell...
I have a family of 4 and we do not spend over $500 a month on groceries,it is called shopping on sale and using coupons and not buying all the pre-packaged stuff, meat is on sale all the time, at the store recently the family ahead of me had a cart full of 20oz pop and paid with a link card, they also were carrying around their coffee from starbucks, and telling thier small child to stop drinking her coffee too fast, and of course they also had a new baby in the cart as well. I completely agree with college i also saw the abuse working at a grocery store. It is time to get people off thier butts and into jobs, It gets so old hearing how hard it is to be poor, when the middle class are driving to work , paying for groceries, and putting money into thier kids lunch account and, oh yeah actually paying taxes!!!!!!
Didn't even get started with your community service? No problem.
Somebody hit your pipe with his head?
Somebody put their open bottle in front of you?
Do I see tears? Did you go peepee or poopoo?
Poor baby. Here, we'll give you 30 day just to keep the heat off us all, but I'll give you a week to show up at jail. If you don't show up, that might be a problem, we'll see.
Has not completed any community service requirements.
This judge is an enormous problem.
He did not follow the requiremnts of the probation, yet a few tears (boo friggin hoo) and mommy in tow means he gets another, yet another minimal sentence for what the judge terms "minor" infraction. Apparently fines and community service are meaningless, and the judge does not see any validity or importance in her own sentencing....absolutely amazing.
Maybe someone needs to publish a website with all these crazy sentences the judges hand down, so the Joe and Jane Public will be aware of who he and she is voting for when the judges seek re-election.
I used to work at a grocery store thru college. I would get so peeved when food stamp people would come thru my line and buy steaks, chips, pop, cookies, junk food, etc. Then they would whip out their cell phones with their manicured nails/salon hair do's and also be rude to us clerks! I just don't understand how people could be rude to someone who is paying for their grocery bill.
I am not clumping all food stamp people into one group but I would say 80% where like this. What is sad is according to this article if I was single and had a family, I would qualify for food stamps on my 2nd year teaching salary!
What does a can of tuna cost 79 cents? How bout a loaf of bread and some lunch meat, 2 bucks? Peanut Butter 1.79? 5lb. bag of skinless grilled chicken breast 4.99? I can make a list of a ton of inexpensive HEALTHY foods you can live on, on a budget, i know because I buy them every week, with my own money. I wont lump all food stamp recipients into the same category. I know some decent people that just need a little help getting on their feet.
I saw a woman at Wal Mart the other day I almost wanted to slap her. She had Steak, salmon, crab meat, shrimp, every expensive piece of food you can buy, and whipped out a link card to pay for it. Then she puled out a wad of 20's and bought cigarettes and beer. If you have enough money for smokes and booze, but not enough for food, you need to seriously get your priorities straight.
The judge on this was Dalton. The same one that sent him to church for eight weeks. This is a joke--he needs to be in jail for all the things that he has done. When is the court system going to wake up. Is it going to take him to shoot or shoot at an officer before the courts do something with this guy. Get him off the streets
You folks need to understand , there may have been extenuating circumstances. The other person may have looked at him wrong, waz actin all hard or even worse, he may have been DISSED. Any of these and much more may have been a legitimate reason for a pipe beating, on the mean streets of Iowa. Sarcasm aside Maximum penalties should apply to any and all repeat, violent offenders. Anything less is a mis-justice on the society who will for sure be in line for his next victim.
Mr Creosote---I am hoping the statutes of limitations have passed on my past crimes! Like more often than not in Mr. Hill's case; I never got prosecuted!
Or, here's an option - birth control. If you are having a hard time making ends meet before you conceive - my thought would be to prevent conception. But it's virtually the opposite, most of these folks have more kids so (or because) they can keep getting WIC and LINK and Section 8 for as long as those babies keep coming.
And go at me with the "it's a sin" spiel. It's a greater sin to make your children starve and live substandard lives. Don't expect me to subsidize your desire to be a mommy. If you can't afford to feed them, don't have them. I don't care what color your skin is.
Another thought would be to marry your baby's daddy but - oh that's right - if you do that, you don't qualify for WIC or you get less of it, can't remember which. I know a couple who are going to wait until their baby is 4 to get married. If they got married now, mom and the baby wouldn't get free health care.
Getting a job would be the most obvious solution here but that's naughty to say.
wapsirat: If your working and getting food stamps how much do you pay media com for your high speed internet... It is a package deal? What type of computer do you own? These are things tax payers for people on hand outs should be asking.
Heck, I got them for a while when my kids were small, used to go to Aldies, they were great!Cans were cheap, we ate a lot of veggies. It was income based, I don't know if they changed the rules In Iowa or not, that has been mega years ago.Oatmeal, was a good breakfast choice, and I could add what I wanted to it. Usually sliced bannanas. Then they went thru a Malto-Meal phase, that wasn't bad either.
Welcome to the liberal state of Scott, where experienced killers get sentenced to go to church, and then get time-outs for bad behavior while being grounded.
This guy should get 30 years, not months! He has killed and will most definately kill again, unless someone else takes care of him.
With a record like he has, he needs to go to the federal pen for a long time.
Fallon89: She needs the charcol to cook the steaks she just bought... My question is why would you go to the One Stop Food & Liquors where prices are double grocery store prices? I am glad they said only about a dozen women do this on the 1st of the month. The rest wait till the a.m. and get better prices I hope.
Not again. You're right. If the slimeball were to try something with me. I'll put a hole right between his eyes and do what the clowns in the black robe won't!
They need to throw his &%^ (butt) in the slammer and throw the %$#@ (darn) key away!!! I don't care if he is red, brown, white, pink, red , green or polka dotted. Let him rot in jail. D.O.J. Department of Jokes
Realistic, technically speaking you are correct. HOWEVER, these Native Americans hunted the plains and migrated all over the continent to follow the game while Europe was still in the Dark Ages. Then after the Europeans discovered this new continent, they came over and, in effect, destroyed the Native American's way of life by bringing diseases they have never seen before and forced them to the reservations.
It wouldn't surprise me a bit if I find out I might have some long lost ancestors in the original cross country travellers. And my ancestory is Asian.
Watch out Davenport's finest... If you put female "lookers" out on the street they may be mistaken for hookers instead. Then you'll have a whole other sting on your hands. Back to previous post of mine: Why should the department's get any of our tax money when they're already generating monies from the fines that surely will be handed out?
So let me get this straight, as I've read earlier. The department's are getting extra funding for the officers to do what their already getting paid for to begin with??? Go figure.
you can't judge everyone who gets them.. Not all people take advantage them. some people actually need them even if they have jobs. It is sad though how things get harder to get now a days bc people take advantage of that and that sucks bc its a serious matter. The amount u get shouldnt be the limit. it should help out as much as possible if u use it all.. use cash or budget.. some people just dont get it.. the state cant provide everything for u.. if they did that theyd be wiping ur butt too
I don't think gays are calling NBC about their relationships and wanting to be interviewed- though it is something that is covered by the media for a number of reasons. If you don't like it, why not look away?
I'm tired of gays flaunting it! TIRED OF IT! Who cares?! I sure don't! Especially since I personally find gay marriage to be immoral and disgusting.
The liberals are going to ruin our country and warp the minds of everyone. Marriage is between a man and a woman. That's what EVERY religion says....not just Christianity (which I don't follow btw). Moral values and right and wrong are becoming a rare thing these days and it scares me.
People opposing gay marriage tend to use strong language when responding to the topic, such as "disgusting", "immoral", "bestiality and "pedophelia". If gays are allowed to have a legal union, how does it affect any one of us or society as a whole?
12-21-2012: "My father's mother was a full-blooded Native American".
So was mine, and not a drop of Indian blood in her.
I'm tired of this bullcrap that says the Indians have the right to claim the phrase, "Native American". They're no more "native" than anyone whose distant forbears came from Europe or anyone else. Science shows that the Indian tribes emigrated from the Asian continent--Russia, specifically.
I am a Native American of European descent, and damned proud of it.
Alex - No, in re-reading your posts they are not hateful at all. I think, unfortunately, some just misunderstood you. As for making your food stamps stretch, well........I heard barbecued dog is pretty tasty. Poodles are best! :-) Cats aren't too bad, either - just make sure it's not Muffin. LOL
If our justice system cannot deal with this major looser and problem to society, then it is time we take care of it ourselves. I see no other alternative.
The judicial system is a joke. I wonder if this is what the judges were thinking. "hmmm, we could put this piece of garbage in jail or we could take it easy on him since he committed another crime by beating someone with a lead pipe." "Not a big deal, guess we will give him 30 days. That way he won't get mad and hit me with a pipe too." Do your jobs and punish people who break the law.
They have a chaplain who can provide the spiritual guidance the young man seems to need as well as the "time out" that will relieve society of his presence and serve to teach him that "bad" consequences
Likely, "the processors won't stey here without an immigrant workforce" is not a matter of a good profit but rather an issue of best profit, and that's why the PERIOD. And what's going on with the construction of OUR facility over on Big Island?
We'll be right in the thick of things here in the Cities.
Now which judge is it who let him off this time? I know I have to go vote to not retain Ms. Dalton next election, wondering who else to put on my "find-a-real-job" list.
Who was the judge? Who was the prosecutor? Did he agree with this?
So once again a VIOLENT CRIMINAL is let loose on society because of a spineless judge.
I want the name of the judge, if I or anyone I know gets arrested I want that judge. That way I could remind him/her of the slap on the wrist given to a violent career criminal. I would expect my charges to be dropped and the case dismissed.
The judge should retire, if they cannot see what this individual has done and continues to do they should quit.
If this guys hurts someone I wonder if you could bring charge against the judge for not protecting the public. One thing they are SWORN to do when they become a judge.
Outsourced, possibly, I don't know, but could also be that work was redesigned with elements of one man's work being given to others. We had machines run by one man, who stood by while the machine cycled, put into cells, so that the man spent cycle time loading and unloading other machines, moving constantly, never standing. Idle hands are the devil's workshop, and though we're not making watches, we are getting paid to make combines/tractors/backhoes. It wasn't easy, young folks, isn't easy now.
But perhaps this is a temporary thing or if not temporary, a situation where a worker might find a job in another Deere facility. I was transferred from one to the other IH plant, long, long ago.
Atheist - I was gonna stay off this topic, but I just have to say thank you!! Once again, you prove to be a much more loving, tolerant person than most so called Christians I know. If only everyone would take your morals to heart what a beautiful world we would live in. Love is the most important gift we have and if we do not use it properly what's the use?!
Gay marriage as such is probably wrong, but why all the hate?
Part of the problem is those who immigrate here legally do so to be Americans and adapt to the American way of life. Most of those here illegally have no intention at all of assimilating into American society, instead they break laws and then of coarse act like like have a civil right to be here.
I did look into Mexican immigration laws...from what I understood, even if you do everything they say you need to do to become legal, you are never considered a citizen on the level of someone born there.
OMG ! Your going to tell me now I need to get another job so I can afford to feed my family because I get to pay more in taxes? Wow! why dose anyone work these days. I don't get to cook on a grill I have to get a night job. Besides what is wrong with the microwave I just bought her.
Stop wif the hands outs to people that are able to go shopping at 12pm. I will bet she woke that baby up to get that LINK cash.
Hey I just finished reading all these comments and I have an idea. Why don't we all start a class action suit against the Mexican government ?? We can charge them with lets see illegal dumpimg ?
Has anyone ever checked into Mexico's immigration laws? Interesting reading..
Michael you said " I asked you why Illegal immigrants aren't back home trying to make their country a better place?" I noticed that chachoochoocha didn't have an answer. The question makes sense to me. Mexico has oil, fertile farm land, and industries moved there by American companies. What more do they need. Oh thats right, they would have to fight the corrupt Mexican government and it's much easier to take what old Uncle Sam doles out for free, while they send part of their money back to Mexico, beefing up that economy while draining ours.
12-12-2012 - Just like greeneyed said - My ancestors (a LONG time ago) immigrated here. I have no problem with immigration in and of itself. It's just that in my work and life in general I see too much abuse of our system by illegal aliens. They are more than welcome to be here if they want to learn to speak our language and be LEGAL!!!! Also, they need to learn to fly and respect the American flag!!! I am VERY familiar with the atrocities in the way we dealt with Native Americans. That was wrong!!! However, just opening our borders and allowing illegals to flood our country is only gonna make a bad situation worse.
chav - I never, ever talked crap to anybody until you showed your ignorant little blob of nothingness so don't even go there. As anyone here on a regular basis knows you are the first person I have ever spoken to in such a way. Don't ever go there again, or we will have this argument in person dumbass. BTW - mid 7 figures FYI. I doubt you make more.
yeah, a 6 pack of Koolaid squeezy things (haha, don't know the name) is just $1.....$1!!!!!
You can't beat that, they need to do smart shopping, hell a can of Pringles is just a $1, so there are items these families can buy that are still cheap, much like everyone else is saying.
And just like the rest of you, I am also taken back the fact that these people are getting FREE.....food and still complaining. How about this, don't have a child as a teen and go to school, at least finish high school so you aren't in this position. And don't you think if you can't afford the first child, WHY HAVE THE 2nd ONE
Great place to take the family is Bucks. Too bad the Airliner, Peaches and Cream, King Cobra's, The Morrocco and Club Matador are Closed, about the only place left is the Camels Nest. In all honesty there are fewer problems in the Black Rock Island bars than in The District. The kids drinking in The District are just killing the business climate downtown. The cops should send them to the west side to drink cause the brothers would keep them in line.
Once again people blur the issue with legal immigration and illegal immigration. Nobody on this post has denied legal immigrants the right to work in this country. But some people believe that the mear fact that they are here entitles them to all the advantages of citizens. That is where they are wrong. So they go back into history and try to validate their argument with situations that happend 100 years ago. Which shows how weak their argument is. Their lack of patience and honorability for doing it the right way but expecting to jump ahead of those lawabiding immigrants who RESPECT the country and it's laws, shows their lack of respect and honor for the things they will recieve.
Rice is cheap too. A ten pound bag of rice will last around a month and you can put a lot of things on it. Gardening comes to mind. There are many ways to get creative if you aren't lazy. If I knew I was only going to have x amount of dollars for a month to eat on I could figure out a way to feed all mouths in the house 3 squares easy. I've done it many times when hubby was laid off or whatever comes our way. I don't buy convienience foods for one. Way too expensive and you get more box than anything. Did the article mention the lady uses coupons? Nope. I have been amazed at how much money you can save using coupons. You can get a whole cart full of food for very little money using coupons. There are many many ways to save $'s if you try. But you have to do a little leg work for them. It's not that hard. Complaining doesn't get food. Prices are not just high for food stamp recipients EVERYBODY has the same issue. And Kingsford is a top name brand costing the most of the charcoals!!!
Sounds like somebody doesn't like it when people say things out of stupidness. Sounds like you need a mirror. As for making more than me, I think I might make more than you and your husband put together.
So, If you don't like people talking crap about you, the stop talking crap about others.
btw. You couldn't chew me out even if you tried. I just won't stoop as low as you to do it on a blog.
Chalk one up for the Iowa Courts!! It is a sad day when a life long criminal gets but a slap on the wrist, and then gets a week to report to his "vacation". Which is exactly what this 30 day stint will be for Mr.Pachino. Come on somewhere to sleep, money on his books and unlimited use of the phone system. What a joke!!
He gets to rest his body, catch up on sleep, detox from the illegal substances before he goes on his next crime spree. Anyone wanna place bets on when we see his face plastered all over the Times again?? My bet is the day he gets released.
will, Tucson AZ is the fastest growing city in America. Phoenix & Las Vegas in the top ten. Like I said, you don't know much about your country.
atheist, solar "farms" are a scifi fantasy in any large way. The places you speak of are the most susceptible to airborne damage to solar panels. "Col;lateral damage"? You sound like the off roaders that can't understand why ripping around tearing up plantlife that took 100 years to grow is a bad thing. I'm all for solar energy, wind, geothermal, etc. But I'm also pragmatic that it's not going to happen tomorrow. If it were, we'd see the opportunities blossoming. It's not going to be "one day nothing the next day everywhere". Just as water, steam, petroleum all took great amounts of time, so will new forms. Supply, demand, all interwoven, no "chicken or the egg" moment. That's why even recreational lands will be a large consideration. You can't sensibly "just" look at solar panels as the magic bullet.
you just said" said, "love thy neighbor", you said you shouldn't have to love our gay neighbor because the bible says its wrong. "
Show me what post did I EVER say that? I have always said I have NO beef with you guys???
I would never say to hate someone because they are gay or straight or black or white?
I beg of you, Please, put down the booze and type with 2 hands, please, because this is important, and I won't be made out to look like a hater of my fellow man or woman!!
Honestly. I wasn't jumping all over you (although you may wish I was if you were a male, but I told you I'm straight) but I also did not apologize to you because I thought I *reacted poorly* in a response to you either. I simply *apologized* that if I misunderstood a portion of what it was you were trying to explain, I am sorry I didi not catch on?...as in, if I was being a litlle thick headed, foggy, slow...get it now?
And like I said, if you guys are gay, it's cool by me. And if you are not (ya right), but defend it so feverishly, why would you eally care?
Anyway, I think you are great just the way you are. I have a feeling you and Muffin and athiets are just p*ssed off that Ellen is soon-to-be no longer available, is that the real bone of contention here today with you guys? I feel for ya though..I think she rocks is funny and is not bad looking for a chick her age.
I am alittle offended because this is really biased in that most fmilies who recive food stamps do work but still have trouble making ends meet. This really is not a well thought out article and tends to leave people think all on food stamps get that much which is simply not true. I don;t know about IL haveing not worked for that state. But in Iowa what you get is income based. People think if you are on aide you are lazy this may be true in some cases however the majority just need a hand up thye work and pay taxes. I really belive as the world is today people lack compassion for anyone. I pay taxes no refund for me I have no problem with my tax dollars going to help people however there is room for improvment in the system better job training for one not everyone has the ability to go to college. I wonder how many of you that complain go to church and profess to be a christain. jump all you want as your opnion of me means nothing I answer to a higher power. spelling challenged lol
I have never done a family tree or anything, but I think it is safe to say that my ancestors were immigrants. I have never tried to deny that.
But, I WAS born here. The law says that makes me a citizen, so, yes, I DO have a birthright to this country. That is what I am talking about on here, the LAW. I have no problem with people from other countries coming here, but it needs to be done the right way.
I am not making light of what happened to the Indians, the things that happened to them were/are a shameful part of our history. But we are talking about NOW and what it means to be a citizen NOW. Why is it so much to ask for people to take the legal channel to be part of this country?
I certainly hope this is not too much of an inconvenience for Mr. Hill. The week delay is understandable, time to figure what to do with his guns, ammo, drugs, etc. while away.
So, who is the judge who came up with this additional insult to the criminal justice system? The judge is not identified in the article.
ex-clintonite

So I will pray for you along with the people of Postville tonight.

reuther and alert,
In Mackinaw City MI most of the population goes on unemployment in the winter because the only industry they have is tourism, and if you want to visit the Upper Penninsula of MI in the winter then you're either an Eskimo or a Green Bay Packers fan.

PART ONE
1. I am pro-choice.

" I took that as meaning, the leviticus was more important than love thy neighbor. My bad. I read your response wrong.

As far as the International designation, it is International (within the US); not Intercontinental (overseas) (like Houston, ORD, ATL, MSP),... get it??!!

fallon89: I also spotted that bag of charcol right after I read the headliner..

A month for probation violation. Unbelievable. I feel sorry for our police officers, and citizens who have to put up with a sh*tty court system that continuously lets guys/gals like this get away with their actions.

Unbelievable. While on probation:
He had two criminal charges filed against him,
Did not pay any portion of his fines,
Has not completed any community service requirements.

Part of the problem is those who immigrate here legally do so to be Americans and adapt to the American way of life. Most of those here illegally have no intention at all of assimilating into American society, instead they break laws and then of coarse act like like have a civil right to be here.

And Kingsford is a top name brand costing the most of the charcoals!!!

mommymee.

Absolutely Unbelievable!!
Come on Iowa Judicial System WAKE UP!!!

will, Tucson AZ is the fastest growing city in America.

I beg of you, Please, put down the booze and type with 2 hands, please, because this is important, and I won't be made out to look like a hater of my fellow man or woman!!

you lost me buddy (or Ma'am)
